World Smile Day is celebrated on the first Friday in the month of October every year.
The idea of World Smile Day was coined
and initiated by Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Worcester,
Massachusetts. Harvey Ball is known to have created the Smiley Face in
1963. The World’s first World Smile Day was held in the year 1999 and
has been held annually since. After Harvey died in 2001, the “Harvey
Ball World Smile Foundation” was created to honour his name and memory.
The slogan of the Smile Foundation is “improving this world, one smile
at a time.” The Foundation continues as the official sponsor of World

Today, class 1a and 1b were studying the underwater world full of different creatures like: an octopus, a horsefish, a crab, a jellyfish, a starfish and more...We made a poster of underwater world :)

Thanksgiving przypada na czwarty czwartek listopada. Jest to pamiątka
pierwszego Dziękczynienia założycieli angielskiej kolonii w Plymouth, którzy
przybyli do Nowej Anglii na statku Mayflower 21 listopada 1620 r. jako grupa
102 purytanów z Anglii (tzw. Pilgrim Fathers, ojcowie pielgrzymi). Ponieśli oni
tej pierwszej zimy wielkie straty i wielu z nich zmarło z głodu. Żniwa 1621
roku były już obfite. Pozostali przy życiu koloniści zdecydowali uczcić to
świętem, wraz z 91 Indianami z plemienia Wampanoagów, którzy pomogli Pielgrzymom
przetrwać trudny okres.
Podczas święta Amerykanie
tradycyjnie spożywają uroczystą kolację w gronie rodziny i przyjaciół,
dziękując Bogu za wszystko, co dobrego ich spotkało. Na stole króluje pieczony
indyk podawany z przystawką z żurawin i słodkimi ziemniakami. Są też ciasta – z
dyni lub z jabłkami. Szacuje się, że tego dnia Amerykanie jedzą przeciętnie 46
milionów indyków.
Święto Dziękczynienia jest okazją
dla akcji charytatywnych organizowanych przez władze lokalne i Kościół.
Wolontariusze w całych Stanach rozdają biednym i bezdomnym darmowe posiłki.
W USA przyjęło się, iż przed Świętem Dziękczynienia urzędująca głowa
państwa ułaskawia świątecznego indyka. Zwyczaj uwalniania indyka (ang. Turkey
Pardoning Ceremony) wprowadził prezydent Harry Truman po zakończeniu II Wojny
Światowej.

celebrated the new yearon 1st November, and the night before that, 31st October, was the eve of
the Celtic new year, called "All Hallows' Eve". The Celts believed that souls of
dead people came back to the earth during that night to find a new body for themselves. Of course, no one
wanted a ghost to live in his body, so people dressed up to look like the souls of the dead.
When Christianity came to Ireland, people no longer celebrated the new year on 1st November but
they didn't stop the tradition of dressing up as ghosts. When millions of Irish people
immigrated to the UnitedStates in the 1840s, the tradition came with them. These days, on 31st October
every year, people in the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada celebrate
Halloween. It is a celebration mostly for children, although more and more adults celebrate
Halloween as well.
